Body Oil FAQ
A little clarity for a slower, more considered body-care ritual. Here are answers to everyday questions about our body oils.
Which Penelle oil should I choose?
Choose Glow for daily radiance, Calm for an unhurried evening ritual, Sculpt for massage and a silky, polished finish, or Second Bloom for a rich, nourishing ritual for dry, mature and changing skin. Let your preferred texture, scent and moment of use guide you.
What is The Glow Oil, and what is in it?
The Glow Oil is our daily radiance ritual, designed to leave skin soft, smooth and lightly luminous. It features jojoba, sweet almond and rosehip oils, with vitamin E. Neroli, sweet orange and cedarwood give it a delicate floral-citrus scent with a warm base. A touch of golden mica adds a soft, radiant glow.
Apply a small amount to damp skin after bathing, before dressing or whenever you want a considered moment of body care.
What is The Calm Oil, and when should I use it?
The Calm Oil is made for a slower evening ritual. Its blend of jojoba, evening primrose, rosehip and grapeseed oils is enriched with vitamin E and scented with blue tansy, lavender and Roman chamomile. A delicate silver shimmer leaves skin softly luminous.
Massage into damp skin after bathing, moving slowly over shoulders, arms and décolletage. Enjoy the grounding aroma and a moment to pause. It is a body-care ritual, not a sleep treatment.
What is The Sculpt Oil, and how do I use it for massage?
The Sculpt Oil is designed for smoothing, intentional body care and massage glide. It features sweet almond, grapeseed, fractionated coconut and rosehip oils, enriched with vitamin E and infused with palmarosa, lavender, geranium, rose, ylang ylang, frankincense and lemon. Fine mineral mica adds subtle radiance.
Massage into damp skin after bathing, or use during your body massage or body gua sha ritual for a silky, polished finish. Expect softness and a smoother-looking finish, not a change to body shape or a treatment for cellulite.
What can I expect on mature or changing skin?
Second Bloom is created for dry, mature and changing skin, including a body-care ritual through perimenopause, menopause and beyond. Expect a rich, nourishing texture that leaves skin feeling soft, supple, smooth and cared for, with a delicate botanical scent. It is about comfort and connection with your skin, not changing who you are. Individual experiences vary; it is not a treatment for hormonal changes or a medical condition.
What is in Second Bloom Oil?
The blend features jojoba, rosehip, evening primrose and sea buckthorn oils, with vitamin E. Clary sage, lavender, bergamot and Roman chamomile create a floral-citrus aroma, while cedarwood, geranium, ylang ylang and fennel add warmth and depth. Check the product packaging for the full ingredient information before use.
Do all the oils have shimmer?
Glow contains golden mica, Calm has a delicate silver shimmer, and Sculpt contains fine mineral mica for subtle radiance. Second Bloom’s ingredients do not include mica or added shimmer.
What is included in The Ritual Set?
The Ritual Set brings together Glow, Calm and Sculpt. Use Glow for daily radiance, Calm for your evening ritual and Sculpt for massage. Second Bloom is a separate oil and is not included in this set.
Do I need to use every oil at once?
No. Choose one to suit the moment, or enjoy different oils at different times of day. The Ritual Set suggests Glow in the morning, Calm in the evening and Sculpt for massage whenever it suits you. Start with a small amount rather than building heavy layers.
Is body oil the same as moisturiser?
Body oil and lotion offer different textures and can work together. Lotions and creams typically combine water with moisturising ingredients, while body oils offer an oil-based layer that helps soften skin and retain existing moisture. Oil is not automatically a replacement for your favourite moisturiser. Choose what leaves your skin feeling comfortable, and use both if that suits you.
Should I apply body oil before or after lotion?
If you enjoy both, try applying your lotion first, then gently smoothing a small amount of oil over it. Start lightly and adjust to how your skin feels. There is no need for a heavy layer or a complicated routine.
Should I use body oils on damp or dry skin?
Our recommended ritual is to massage your oil into slightly damp skin after bathing. Pat away excess water rather than drying completely. Warm a small amount between your palms, then massage gently into the body using slow, sweeping movements. Take a moment to breathe deeply and enjoy the ritual.
How do I use body oil with sunscreen?
Body oil is not a sunscreen and does not provide SPF protection. Do not mix it into sunscreen or use it to dilute your sunscreen. Follow your sunscreen’s directions for application, timing and reapplication. For a simple routine that avoids layering uncertainty, enjoy your body oil after an evening bath or shower and apply sunscreen separately as directed during the day. Cancer Council Australia recommends applying sunscreen to clean, dry skin before moisturisers or cosmetics.
Will it feel greasy, and how much should I use?
Start with a small amount and spread it gently over slightly damp skin. Add a little more only if you want it. Let the oil settle before dressing. If the finish feels heavier than you prefer, try using less next time rather than adding more layers.
Should I patch test first?
We recommend patch testing prior to use. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
Our oils contain aromatic botanical ingredients, so check the ingredient information on each product’s packaging if you have known sensitivities. Glow and Sculpt contain sweet almond oil. Our products are intended for cosmetic and personal care use only, not to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. For persistent irritation or concerns about changing skin, seek advice from a qualified health professional.
